None of these fit exactly? That's what the 8-minute assessment is for.
“Three specialists, four years, no answer. This gave me the words to bring to my next visit.”
“First time a health thing didn't feel like it was selling me anything. It just… mapped me.”
“The 30/60/90-day plan is what my functional MD actually followed. Saved us three sessions.”
Why patients trust us
Dr. Nipun Aggarwal, MD designed every question and report framework. This isn't a generic quiz — it's a clinical triangulation tool.
Western functional medicine, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese Medicine are cross-referenced so nothing is reduced to a single theory.
The report is written to be brought into a real appointment. Labs, lifestyle steps, and a 30/60/90-day order of operations.
Physician-designed Root Cause assessment
A thoughtful, evidence-informed questionnaire that maps your symptoms across the functional medicine spectrum — gut, mitochondria, HPA axis, thyroid, mold/CIRS, Lyme, autoimmunity, hormones and more — and returns a detailed personalized report to bring to your practitioner.
This is an educational self-assessment tool, not a diagnosis. Please work with a licensed functional medicine practitioner for actual evaluation and treatment.

Two traditions, one body
Your body doesn't split itself into disciplines. Neither should the lens we use to understand it. Every report reads your symptoms through functional Western medicine — mitochondria, HPA axis, microbiome, labs — and through the pattern-recognition of Ayurveda (dosha imbalances, agni, ojas) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (Zang-Fu patterns, Qi, Yin/Yang).
Where the three converge, you get high-confidence root causes. Where they diverge, you get complementary angles — nutrition and testing on one side, breathwork, herbal formulas, and lifestyle rhythm on the other — so nothing gets missed.
Built by a practicing MD trained in functional & integrative medicine.
80 questions mapped to 25 root-cause categories, read through both Western functional medicine and Eastern (Ayurveda / TCM) lenses.

Advertorial · Nervous system
One nerve. Free to train. Touches almost every chronic pattern people bring to a functional-medicine clinic — gut issues, anxiety, poor sleep, brain fog, autoimmune flares, histamine reactions, heart-rate irregularities. Most people have never been taught it exists, let alone how to work with it.
Inside the article
Inside the report

Meet the physician
I built Root Decoder because too many patients walk into my clinic having been told for years that their labs are “fine.” They are not fine. They are unmapped.
This is the same structured, systems-based intake I use with my own patients — gut, mitochondria, HPA axis, thyroid, mold, Lyme, autoimmunity, hormones — read through both functional-medicine and Ayurveda / TCM lenses. Take it, bring it to whoever you see next, and start three steps ahead.
Four lenses. One body.
Modern medicine names it. Functional medicine traces it. Ayurveda balances it. Chinese medicine moves it. Your report is read through all four.
One symptom → one diagnosis → one pill or procedure.
Symptoms are downstream. Follow the web upstream to root causes.
Health = balance of Vata (air), Pitta (fire), Kapha (earth).
Health = free flow of Qi, blood, and yin/yang in dynamic balance.
Send it to someone
You probably do. Send this to them — it's free to take, and it may be the first time anyone maps what they've been feeling.

See what you get
Every report is a personal narrative — not a checklist. Below is a preview of the structure: pattern overview, root-cause hypotheses, suggested labs, a foundational plan for emotional and nervous-system regulation, and a 30/60/90-day roadmap.
Your answers describe a picture consistent with a HPA-axis dysregulation pattern layered on gut dysbiosis and early mitochondrial fatigue. In Ayurvedic terms this reads as a Vata-Pitta imbalance with weakened agni; in TCM as Spleen Qi deficiency with Liver overacting on Spleen.
Real patterns, real relief
Composite reflections from users who used their report to guide the next conversation with a functional-medicine practitioner.
“After 4 years of 'your labs are normal,' the report flagged HPA-axis strain and mitochondrial patterns I'd never heard of. My functional MD ran the exact labs suggested — and we finally had a starting point.”
“I brought the report to my appointment and my practitioner said it was the most organized symptom summary she'd ever received from a new patient. It saved us at least two visits.”
“The mitochondrial and dysautonomia sections nailed what I've been dealing with since COVID. Wish I'd had this two years ago instead of bouncing between specialists.”
“It caught the thyroid + adrenal + histamine overlap that my primary care completely missed. The 30/60/90 roadmap gave me actual next steps, not just a list of problems.”
“The CIRS/mold section described my symptoms word-for-word after we moved into a newer apartment. Ordered the mycotoxin panel my report suggested — it came back positive.”
“Seven minutes and $79 got me more insight than three years of $400 specialist copays. This should be the intake form every functional-medicine clinic uses.”
Composite testimonials reflecting common user experiences. Individual results vary. This is not medical advice.
A quiet moment
No one else is going to sit you down and ask these. So we will. Read slowly. The answers are the reason this exists.
How many more years are you willing to be told your labs are “normal” while you feel anything but?
What has this already cost you — mornings, workouts, patience with your kids, sex drive, ambition, the version of you that used to show up?
If nothing changes in the next 12 months, where does this actually go?
How much have you already spent on specialists, supplements, and elimination diets that never connected the dots?
What would it be worth to walk into your next appointment with a map instead of a list of complaints?
The most expensive thing you can do with a chronic symptom is keep guessing at it for another year.
One specialist visit costs more than this. One month of the wrong supplement stack costs more than this. Eight minutes and $79 gets you a physician-designed map of what your body has actually been trying to tell you — across 25 root-cause categories, read through both Western and Eastern medicine.
An honest perspective
The internet has turned three foods into villains. The truth is more nuanced — and far more useful — than a blanket ban.

Gluten
For roughly 1% with celiac and a meaningful slice with non-celiac gluten sensitivity or wheat allergy, gluten is genuinely harmful. For most others, the problem is often modern wheat processing, glyphosate residue, fast-rise industrial bread, and a stressed gut lining — not the protein itself. Sourdough, heritage grains, and a calm nervous system change the story for many people.
Dairy
A large share of adults don't fully digest lactose, and A1 beta-casein can drive inflammation and mucus in sensitive people. But fermented, grass-fed, A2, or sheep and goat dairy is well-tolerated by many — and a genuine source of protein, calcium, K2, and probiotics. The question isn't "dairy: yes or no." It's which dairy, in what state, for which gut.
Sugar
Added sugar and refined fructose genuinely drive insulin resistance, fatty liver, mood swings, and inflammation — especially in liquid form. But a bowl of berries, a ripe mango, or raw honey in tea is not the same molecule as a soda. The real enemy is ultra-processed sweetness engineered to override fullness, not fruit your grandmother recognized.
Our take
Blanket elimination is a blunt tool. It sometimes works — because it removes your trigger by accident.
A better question is why your body is reacting: a permeable gut lining, dysbiosis, low stomach acid, a dysregulated nervous system, or a real sensitivity that testing can name. Fix the terrain and many "villain" foods become neutral again. That's exactly what your Root Cause Map is designed to surface.
The three pillars
Ancient medicine and modern functional medicine agree on this: if any one of these three is broken, nothing downstream fully works.
Digestion
You are not what you eat — you are what you digest and absorb. Without strong stomach acid, healthy bile flow, calm vagal tone, and a balanced microbiome, even the cleanest diet becomes fermentation, bloat, and inflammation. Ayurveda calls this agni. TCM calls it Spleen Qi. Both put it first for a reason.
Signs it's off: bloating, reflux, undigested food, sluggishness after meals, cravings, brain fog within an hour of eating.
Nutrition
Your body rebuilds itself constantly — hormones, neurotransmitters, mitochondria, immune cells — from the amino acids, minerals, fats, and micronutrients you supply. Undereat protein, run low on magnesium, B12, iron, vitamin D or omega-3s, and the machinery slowly stalls. No supplement fixes a diet that isn't feeding you.
Signs it's off: fatigue, hair loss, weak nails, poor recovery, mood swings, stubborn cravings, slow healing.
Elimination
What doesn't leave, poisons. Daily bowel movements, healthy sweat, deep breathing, a working liver and lymph, restful sleep, and even emotional release — these are how your body clears hormones, toxins, metabolic waste, and stress. Constipation is not just uncomfortable; it's estrogen and endotoxin recirculating.
Signs it's off: constipation, skin breakouts, body odor, puffiness, hormonal PMS, waking unrefreshed, feeling "backed up" mentally too.
Fix the three pillars first, and most "mystery symptoms" quietly resolve.
Your Root Cause Map scores each pillar against your symptoms and shows you exactly which one to rebuild first — so you're not throwing supplements at a foundation that's still cracked.
