Insulin is a key that unlocks cells to let glucose in. In insulin resistance, the locks are rusted — the pancreas makes more and more keys, but the door still barely opens.

Every time you eat carbohydrate, your pancreas releases insulin, which tells cells to absorb glucose from the blood. In insulin resistance, cells stop responding well, so the pancreas cranks out more insulin to compensate.
For years, fasting glucose can look normal while fasting insulin is quietly elevated — a state that drives weight gain (especially belly fat), energy crashes 2–3 hours after eating, sugar cravings, brain fog, and skin tags.
