TCM — Liver Qi Stagnation

The Liver in TCM ensures the free flow of Qi and emotion. When Liver Qi is constrained — often by stress or suppressed emotion — symptoms shift with mood and cluster on the sides of the body.

Common lifestyle changes that help

These are the foundational shifts most often used alongside clinical care for this pattern. Start with one; layer in the next only when the first feels automatic. Discuss anything major with your practitioner.

  • Daily movement to move stuck qi — walking, dancing, yoga, stretching
  • Emotional expression: journaling, therapy, singing, creative outlets
  • Reduce alcohol and greasy food (both burden the Liver)
  • Qi-moving foods: citrus peel, mint, rose, turmeric, radish
  • Breathwork focused on the ribcage; sighs and long exhales are medicine
